This course is intended for physicians and other healthcare professions whose primary focus is in the assessment and treatment of cardiovascular emergencies. Course Pre-Requisites: A pre-requisite for the course is a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification. A copy of this valid card must be provided with course registration. Course Objectives: Participants attending the Advanced Cardiac Life Support course will: Increase their ability to treat cardiac arrest situations, cardiac arrhythmias and acute myocardial infarctions. Qualify for certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association. Upon successful completion of written examination and performance testing, participants will be certified by the American Heart Association as ACLS providers.

The American Heart Association's BLS course is designed for the healthcare providers caring for patients both in prehospital and in-facility environments.

The American Heart Association designed this Basic Life Support (BLS) class for health care providers. During this class, you will learn:

  • describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
  • describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival
  • apply the BLS Concepts of the Chain of Survival
  • recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
  • perform high-quality CPR for an adult
  • describe the importance of early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • demonstrate the appropriate use of an AED
  • provide effective ventilation using a barrier device
  • perform high-quality CPR for a child
  • perform high-quality CPR for an infant
  • describe the importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation
  • perform as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
  • describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an adult or child
  • describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an infant

Upon completion of the class, you will take a hands-on skills test and a written exam. You will receive a certification card once you pass both tests. The certification is in effect for 2 years.

In most cases you will receive an instruction book at class. Occassionally the book maybe mailed in advance.

Please arrive 5 minutes before the class starts so that we can begin on time. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the class begins, we will not admit you to the classroom. You will need to reschedule for another BLS session. If you are picking up your book at class and would like to review, you may arrive 15 minutes before the start of the class.
